A recent revelation, uncovers that the South Carolina Republican Congressman Trey Gowdy, was offered a federal judgeship.
According to The Daily Caller News Foundation, Trey Gowdy, who has been in service in Congress for four terms, has made an announcement that he is planning on stepping away from Capitol Hill.
His announcement came less than 24 hours after Judge Dennis Shedd of the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals received a senior-status, which is a kind of semi-retirement. These senior-status judges, retreat from active service, but still may take part in some particular cases.
The interesting timing led many people to believe that Congressman Gowdy would be filling in Shedd’s place.
However, reportedly a source close to Gowdy has revealed to the The Daily Caller News Foundation that “He is not planning on becoming a judge,” and that “He was approached months ago and turned it down.”
Allegedly, in addition to this, the source confirmed that the he will be returning to private practice.
This information was also confirmed by an official from The White House who said that the seat in the 4th Circuit was offered to Gowdy a year ago, but he turned down the offer.
The 4th Circuit is the federal appeals court located in Richmond, and Shedd’s position was responsible for the part of the 4th Circuit covering South Carolina, which is the home state of Trey Gowdy.
In November 2017, President Donald Trump also filled an empty seat at the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina.
Gowdy would have most likely been the perfect candidate for the job, considering his years of experience as an attorney, unfortunately we now find out that he refused the position.
